**I am a qualified and EMDRIA™ approved EMDR-trained therapist in the greater Sacramento and Roseville area.
“EMDR allows you to achieve profound healing in a short period of time with minimal amounts of distress.”
EMDR combines dual stimulation (through back and forth eye movements, alternating sound, or vibrations) with holding in mind a difficult or unpleasant memory. This unique combination of holding a memory in your mind while experiencing dual stimulation triggers the human brain’s innate ability to resolve emotional disturbance and gain healthy new insight (similar to what occurs in the brain when we are in REM sleep).
The dual stimulation helps ignite the part of the brain that effects logic, as well as the part of the brain that effects emotion. Often times, logically we know one thing, but emotionally, we feel another. EMDR helps align both logic and emotion to alleviate emotional distress and find peace around difficult memories and events in order to prevent the past from negatively impacting the present and future.
**Any event(s) in your life that has caused you OR continues to cause you emotional turmoil or distress.
For example, when you think about a past memory, experience, or event, if it ignites an emotional reaction from you (such as depression, anxiety, fear, sadness, anger, resentment, guilt, shame, grief, nightmares, insecurity, or panic attacks), then EMDR can help!
Studies show that symptoms related to a single significant or traumatic incident can often be resolved in a total of three to six sessions. This includes sessions for history taking, treatment planning, preparation, EMDR treatment sessions, and reevaluation.
Treatment for survivors of multiple events or traumas will take longer. Survivors of prolonged trauma (such as combat trauma or persistent childhood neglect and abuse) have been shown to benefit tremendously from psychotherapy with EMDR, but to achieve comprehensive improvements, will need more sessions than for a single traumatic incident.
Only mental health professionals eligible to be licensed to practice psychotherapy are accepted for training by EMDR International Association approved training programs. To be sure a psychotherapist has appropriate training in EMDR, verify they have completed an EMDRIA™ approved training program in EMDR.
