5 Things You Should Know About Me:

  1. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who specializes in working with women around a variety of issues.  I also specialize in EMDR therapy for treatment of anxiety and healing from traumatic experiences.
  2. I incorporate both psychological and spiritual perspectives in the healing process in order to help you live a more soul-conscious life.
  3. I absolutely love what I do, and even more, I love witnessing what my clients are capable of doing.
  4. Therapy is not meant to last forever.  My hope is to eventually never see my clients again – and I mean that in the nicest way possible!  I strive to help my clients achieve the life and relationships they want (through insight, knowledge, healing and soul-conscious living) that allows them to navigate future challenges on their own.
  5. Therapy is not a one-size-fits-all approach.  Everybody thinks, feels, and processes life in unique ways.  For that reason, I dedicate a considerable amount of time tailoring each of my clients treatment to fit their specific style and needs.

My Approach:

I believe that a person’s difficulties are best understood within the many contexts in which they live and/or grew up in (i.e. family, friends, relationships, school, work, media, spirituality, experiences, etc).  What most people describe as “problems” or “symptoms” are often understandable responses to their difficult situation.  I incorporate both psychological and spiritual perspectives in my approach to help you heal, find inner peace and to live a more soul-conscious life.

Theoretical Approach:

Depending on the client and the nature of the problem, I use the following models of therapy in my approach:

B.A., Psychology and Communications
University of California, Davis

M.A., Marriage and Family Therapy
Alliant International University, Sacramento

** Alliant International University is one of the leading MFT training programs on the West Coast and is the only COAMFTE-Accredited MFT program (the highest level of MFT accreditation in the United States) in Northern California.

Clinical experience:

Clackamas County Juvenile Department
Relationship Skills Center for Couples
Parent Project
Full Circle Treatment Center
Community of Recovery Resources
Pediatrician Office of Dr. Lakshmi Avala, MD
Private Practice of Dr. Sean Davis, PhD
Private Practice of Sonal Dhillon, M.A., LMFT

Personal Information:

I was born and raised in Portland, Oregon, and moved to Northern California to attend college at the University of California, Davis.  After graduating, I moved to Boston where I learned what it means to literally freeze your butt off!  After a year on the East Coast and enduring one of the coldest winters the city had ever seen, I decided to move back to the warm weather and be closer to my family.  I have been residing in Sacramento, California ever since and consider it to be home after living here for over 15 years.

My husband and I have been together for 19 years and married for 13.  We have a beautiful daughter who challenges us in the most incredible ways and has taught me more about myself than I could have ever imagined.  In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, reading, going for walks, meditating, watching movies and being in nature.
